Moore Assesses Damage After Monday's Tornado

Central Oklahoma Hit Hard by Severe Storms

Tornadoes, Hail, and Wind Damage Reported

On April 19, 2023, central Oklahoma was battered by a series of severe thunderstorms that produced tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds. One particularly destructive tornado touched down in the western part of the state, causing significant damage to the city of Moore. As of Tuesday morning, Meteorologist and Stormchaser Simon Brewer and Juston Drake are on the ground in Moore, providing live updates on the situation.

The tornado struck Moore around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, carving a path of destruction through the community. Homes, businesses, and infrastructure were damaged, leaving many residents without power or shelter. Emergency crews have been working tirelessly to clear debris and restore essential services to the affected areas.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that the tornado that hit Moore was rated EF-4, with winds exceeding 165 miles per hour. The storm was part of a larger outbreak of severe weather that affected much of the southern Plains on Monday. Numerous other tornadoes were reported in Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas, along with widespread hail and wind damage.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management is coordinating relief efforts for the communities impacted by the storms. Shelters have been established in Moore and other affected areas to provide assistance to those in need. The Red Cross and other volunteer organizations are also mobilizing to support the recovery process.

As the cleanup and recovery efforts continue, the full extent of the damage caused by the storms is still being assessed. Meteorologists are monitoring the weather closely for any additional threats, as more rounds of severe weather are possible in the coming days.
