Human Bocavirus 1 HBoV1: A Significant Contributor to Respiratory Illness
Discovery and Significance
Human bocavirus 1 (HBoV1), first described in 2005, has emerged as a prominent cause of respiratory illness. This virus belongs to the Parvoviridae family and has consistently been linked to respiratory tract infections.
Clinical Importance
Among human bocaviruses, HBoV1 stands out as the most clinically relevant. It can induce a spectrum of respiratory symptoms, primarily involving the upper respiratory tract. Despite being primarily associated with mild infections, HBoV1 can occasionally lead to severe lower respiratory illnesses, including pneumonia and bronchiolitis.
