Cri du Chat Syndrome: A Rare Genetic Disorder
What is Cri du Chat Syndrome?
Cri du chat syndrome, also known as cat cry syndrome, is a rare genetic disorder that occurs due to a missing piece of chromosome 5.
This missing piece of chromosome results in a distinctive high-pitched cry that resembles a cat's meow, which is often the first sign of the condition. The disorder can cause a range of physical and developmental challenges.
About 1 in 50,000 people are born with cri du chat syndrome. It affects both males and females equally.
