MLB Announces Lou Gehrig Day to Honor Legacy and Raise Awareness
Annual Event to Commemorate Baseball Legend on June 2
Event Details and Charity Auction Announced
Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced plans for the third annual Lou Gehrig Day, a league-wide event to honor the legendary baseball player and raise awareness about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Lou Gehrig Day will be held on June 2, the date in 1925 when Gehrig became the New York Yankees' starting first baseman and the date in 1941 when he retired due to ALS.
The MLB has planned several initiatives for Lou Gehrig Day, including a charitable auction featuring autographed bats from some of baseball's top players. All MLB teams playing on Friday, June 2, will participate in the event.
